Objectives

* Reinforce the participating countries' capacity building on a national level, to help enable them to implement policies for the conservation and wise use of their wetland resources

* Reinforce capacity building on the local level by strengthening the potential socio-economic assets of the sites

*Improve the economy of the local communities

Anticipated results

* Focal Units for the wetlands in each of the participating countries are fully established and working efficiently

* Exchange of information and expertise
* Update and launch mananagement plans for the three selected sites

* Socio-economic activity, at least one, developed in each selected site

Actions / Activities

* Support the organisation of the Focal Units in each of the three countries

* Train the technical personnel and site managers in the fields of wetland management and collection of data for monitoring

* Update the existing management plans of Merja Zerga, Morocco and Sebkhat El Kelbia, Tunisia

* Develop management plan for Reghaia, Algeria

*Organise and implement a scientific monitoring programme for the principal ecologic parameters for the three sites

* Establish and equip Environmental Education Centres in the three sites

* Develop and reinforce eco-tourism in the three sites

* Organise exchange programmes for the managers of the sites

* Organise exhibitions and create publications on a regional level
