mediterranean wetlands
committee and medwet steering group
The Mediterranean Wetlands Committee is composed
of representatives of
25
Mediterranean countries, the Palestinian Authority, the European
Commission, intergovernmental organisations and international
conventions, non-governmental organizations and five wetland centres
providing scientific knowledge and expertise on wetlands.
The Committee meets every one and half years to
review progress in the work undertaken by MedWet and advise the
Ramsar Convention on issues related to Mediterranean wetlands and
the work of MedWet.
Between meetings of the Mediterranean Wetlands
Committee, MedWet relies on the Steering Group to take operational
decisions and solve problems in the implementation of the Commitee's
decisions. One representative of each of the regions of Africa,
Middle East and Europe is appointed to serve for three years at a
time as member of the Group.
