8th PPCC Meeting (Lemos, Prespa, 21-22 November 2005)

The successful conclusion of the development of the GEF project for the Prespa Park area, was the issue dominating the eighth regular meeting of the Prespa Park Coordination Committee held in the village of Lemos, Greek Prespa. Implementation of the project “Integrated ecosystem management in the Prespa Lakes basin of Albania, FYR-Macedonia and Greece” is expected to start in 2006.

During the meeting the Prespa Park stakeholders also discussed various activities that have taken place in the Prespa basin, including several projects funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), which contribute to the Prespa Park objectives.

A side meeting of the veterinarian authorities of the three countries took place on 21 November, with the aim at establishing a framework for crossborder coordination to mitigate possible outbreaks of avian influenza in the Prespa basin.
